It worked! Our first farm workshop is planned! With the hope of eating from our own vegetable garden as early as summer vacation, we feel a rush to get the right knowledge. After all, we want to grow our food according to the principles of permaculture, among others, and we are not yet well versed in that.
We approached Milan. He is rapidly making himself master the theory of regenerative farming methods such as permaculture and electroculture and putting them into practice in his own vegetable garden. Milan also works in education and we trust him to teach us the ropes of vegetable gardening.
During the May vacation, Milan will travel to Croatia and during the week of May 6 to 10, he will give lectures and workshops for young and old in our vegetable gardens.
Are you planning your May vacation getaway and fancy exploring northeast Croatia? You are cordially invited to hook up!
What to expect.
We will send you a comprehensive list of lodging options: from the local hotel to the spas in Lipik. From a camping facility half an hour away to B&B in refurbished authentic Croatian farmhouses. You will also receive a list of area attractions and fun activities from us. This way you can prepare your own May vacation!
Meanwhile on the farm
The first week of the May vacation, I will be getting things ready in and around the farm with the children. Since we are only there during school vacations, a To Do list of lawn mowing, checking what the wind has done to our roofs, checking the drains and getting the hay barn ready to receive guests awaits us.
In the orchard we make a place where we can enjoy listening to Milan’s story in the sun. In the hay barn, we make room to sit dry in the event of a drizzle. We will stock up on materials we will use at the workshop such as copper wire and plenty of gardening tools. Since we cannot yet harvest from the vegetable garden, we will also restock the refrigerator because without good food, the vacation is not complete!
In the second week, Milan will teach a workshop on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9. So you can choose which day you want to hook up. The workshops last for 2 half-days. We have a nice lunch together in the orchard. The workshops are for young and old alike, but I’m guessing the kids will soon be distracted by all the other things to do on the farm…. And there is plenty of room for that!
Because there are 2 workshops, Willem and I alternate, so we take turns having our hands free to keep an eye on the children who can enjoy themselves between yard and field of what they are discovering. If all children drop out of the workshop, we will take them on a walk with a knapsack and look for tracks of jackals and wild boars that migrate across the property at night.
Closing workshop day
Just before the stomachs start grumbling, we will conclude the workshop day. We like it if you also join us for dinner: the kids have been stoking the fire above which the big witch’s bowl of bean soup has been hanging for a few hours! Should you already be “full” from the knowledge transfer, you can of course enjoy the tranquility of your own residence.
